Clarity Backed by Expertise

Frequently Asked QuestionsThe YarnWill every skein of the same colorway be the same? Not quite — and that's part of the charm of hand-dyed yarn. Because each batch is mixed and dyed by hand, you may notice small differences from skein to skein, even within one colorway. When you're working on a project with multiple skeins, we suggest working from more than one at a time, switching back and forth every row or two — that way any subtle variation blends. Would you wind a skein into a ball for me? We aren't able to offer winding right now. Please note: wound yarn typically can’t be returned or exchanged. What can I make with your yarn? All of the things – knitted or crochet! We'd love to see your finished projects, so tag us on Instagram [@dyeandbloomfibreco].I'm knitting a sweater — can you make sure my skeins match? Yes, we'll do our best to pull matching skeins for bigger projects like this. If we don’t have enough, we'll reach out before shipping — either to dye a fresh batch to match, or, if your colorway happens to be a limited one-time dye lot, to let you decide how you'd like to proceed. What are your "surprise" colorways? Every so often we dye something just for the fun of it — a colorway that won't be repeated.

Ordering & Stock

How do restocks work? We only list yarn that's already dyed and ready to ship. Shop updates and new colorways are usually announced on Instagram @dyeandbloomfibreco first, and our newsletter subscribers always get the full rundown of what's included.

A colorway I want is sold out. What now? Search for it on our site and pull up the product page — if it's a color we plan to dye again, you'll see an option to be notified once it's restocked. Pop in your email and we'll let you know the moment it's back.

How long until my order ships? Most of our yarn is dyed to order rather than sitting pre-made, please build in 2 weeksbefore it heads out the door. From there, transit time depends on the shipping method you pick at checkout.

Can two separate orders be shipped together? Just send us a quick note with both order numbers and we'll combine them into one shipment where we can, refunding you any difference in shipping cost.

Shipping

What shipping carriers do you use? Orders go out [Monday through Friday] via USPS and UPS — you'll pick your preferred option at checkout, and we'll email you tracking as soon as it ships.

Is shipping ever free? Yes — spend [$XXX] or more domestically (or [$XXX] internationally) and standard shipping is on us. You can still pay to upgrade to a faster service at checkout; just know that only speeds up the trip to your door, not the dye time beforehand.

Do you ship outside the US? Sorry, at this time we are not shipping internationally.

Tracking says "delivered" but it's not here — help! Give it a little time and a look around first — check with neighbors and around your porch, since packages sometimes show as delivered up to a day before they actually show up. Still nothing after 24 hours? Reach out to your local post office. Every order ships insured, so let us know too and we'll help get a claim started.

  • Costs or damages associated with shipping errors based on erroneous delivery information are not our responsibility.

Something's wrong with my order — what do I do? So sorry about that! Just flag it for us within  14 days of your package arriving and we will sort it out quickly.

Can I return a custom or one-of-a-kind order? Custom pieces, club yarn, and those limited one-time colorways are final sale — unless something's actually defective.

Caring for Your Yarn

Should I use more than one skein at a time? Definitely — when you're working with more than one skein of the same color, alternate between them every row or two. Since hand-dyed yarn has natural variation skein to skein, this keeps color shifts blended and gradual.

Will the color bleed when I wash it? We do everything we can to lock the dye in, but a little bleeding can still happen now and then — especially with deeper, more saturated shades sitting next to something pale. Before you wash a finished piece with more than one color in it, knit up a small swatch using all the colors involved and give that a soak first. No bleeding there means you're good to wash the whole thing. A color-catcher sheet can add extra insurance.
